For more than four decades, Greg Albanowicz has started his days before sunrise with a simple goal in mind: deliver paint safely, reliably and on time. As a driver in Sherwin-Williams Paint Stores Group, Greg built a career defined by consistency, earning the trust of teammates, customers and leaders alike.
Greg recently retired after 46 years with the Company. He started his career in the warehouse before moving into a delivery role, and eventually into driving a truck – a role he would hold for the rest of his career.
Over the years, Greg’s role extended well beyond driving. Each morning, he helped load trucks, wrap pallets and prepare orders before heading out on his deliveries.
For Greg, reliability means more than punctuality. It means problem-solving on the fly, being adaptable and doing the right thing even when it took more time. Those same instincts guide his approach to safety, a discipline reinforced by his passion for racing, where preparation and precision are non-negotiable.
Outside of work, Greg has spent years interested and involved in stock car and drag racing, traveling to tracks across the region and supporting teams behind the scenes. The experience brought him lifelong friendships, many of which began through paint deliveries and customer connections.
“Over the years, I became very good friends with customers, and would go racing with them on the weekend and even help out with their cars,” Greg recalls. “In racing, your vehicle has to be in perfect condition before you head out onto the track. Whether I was delivering paint or working a race on the weekend, safety and preparation were always top of mind.”
From inspecting his truck and securing every load to remaining focused on the road, safety comes first for Greg. That attention to detail carried through to how Greg served customers. He built long-standing relationships with painters and contractors, many of whom requested him by name. Greg took the time to get to know each customer, learning what mattered to them and adapting to their needs.
“Reliability is very important,” says Greg. “I built relationships with my customers, and they started asking me to make their deliveries because they trust that I’ll get there on time and with everything they need.”
Reflecting on his career, Greg speaks most fondly about the people. “I met a lot of good people over the years – customers, teammates, managers,” he says.
“Everybody’s been great to me. I love my job. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.”
In retirement, Greg looks forward to traveling and spending time with family. Whether on the road or in the pits at the racetrack, Greg leaves a legacy of dependability and trust in a job well done.
